Overview

Stress and crisis are increasingly common in today’s world — especially highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. This course goes beyond awareness, equipping participants with practical skills to provide psychological first aid (PFA) to individuals experiencing distress. Participants will learn how to offer immediate emotional support, assess needs, and connect those affected with appropriate resources, whether in the workplace or the community.

Course Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the principles and importance of psychological first aid
  • Recognise signs of distress and assess the immediate needs of affected individuals
  • Provide practical and emotional support using PFA action principles
  • Apply self-care strategies to maintain personal wellbeing while helping others
  • Connect individuals with further support when necessary

  1. Introduction to mental health and the role of a PFA provider
  2. The importance of self-care and self-awareness in crisis support
  3. Understanding crisis situations and how to respond appropriately
  4. Action principles of Psychological First Aid: Prepare, Look, Listen, Link
  5. What helps and what hinders in communication and support
  6. Practical application through guided role play and case scenarios

Target Audience

Individuals who are interested in acquiring knowledge and practical skills to support those who are affected by crisis and stress.

Certification

Upon completion of the course, the participants will be awarded the Certificate of Completion by HMI Institute.

Caregiver Training Grant Claimable
Eligible care recipients will receive a $200 annual subsidy (from April to March the following year) that can be used by their caregivers (family members or foreign domestic workers) to attend courses to better care for their loved ones.
