Overview

The module on Patient Education and Engagement equips the learner with the knowledge and skills to provide patients with information on pre and post doctor consultation and/or procedures and promote awareness on health and wellness to achieve optimal health outcomes for patients.

Learning Objectives

  1. Assess the types of patients with specific needs and address their readiness to be educated.
  2. Access patient information/medical records whilst maintaining medical confidentiality, and address problems that impact the undertaking of a procedure/consultation.
  3. Provide updated knowledge on healthcare services to address queries on procedures and refer or escalate complex queries to senior personnel according to work protocol
  4. Provide post procedure follow-up information and instructions to optimise patients’ health and well being

Course Outline

  1. Procedures to access patient information and patient records
  2. Types of patients with specific needs
  3. Patient confidentiality
  4. Types of pre-procedures and post-procedures follow-up according to organisational guidelines
  5. Checklist of problems that may impact patients’ undertaking of a procedure
  6. Basic medical terminologies
  7. Up-to-date knowledge on healthcare services
  8. Identify any problems that may impact on the undertaking of a procedure or consultation according to prescribed checklists and guidelines
  9. Provide pre-procedures, and post-procedures follow-up as required
  10. Address any pre-procedure and post-procedure queries from the patients within scope of work
  11. Identify complex queries and questions for escalation
  12. Reiterate post-procedure instructions to patients
  13. Recommend and refer to seniors on general wellness

Target Audience

  1. Existing healthcare workers

Entry Requirements

  1. Obtained at least a C6 pass at N-Level in any 1 subject or equivalent; OR
  2. Workplace Literacy & Numeracy (WPLN) Level 4 (Speaking, Listening, Reading & Numeracy) and Level 3 (Writing)

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a formal recognition through the award of a Statement(s) of Attainment (SOA) from SkillsFuture Singapore.

  • Day 1: Asynchronous Synchronous (4 hours)
  • Day 1, 2, & 3: Classroom training (20 hours)
  • Day 4: Assessment (1 hour)
  • Clinical attachment (8 hours)

SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) is providing course fee funding to the healthcare in-service staff.

  1. Up to 70% course fee subsidy for Singaporean aged 21-39 & SPR 21 years and above.
  2. Up to 90% course fee subsidy for Singaporean aged 40 & above.
  3. Up to 90% course fee subsidy for all staff (Singaporean & SPR) under the Enhanced Training Support for SMEs (ETSS) for SME employers.
