ZaoBao: 中年失业转当治疗助理前销售总监照顾长者“尽孝道”

Our alumnus, Mr Song Wentao, was featured in Lianhe Zaobao (联合早报) as part of SkillsFuture Singapore’s 10th anniversary coverage, highlighting his inspiring mid-career transition into healthcare.

After spending 30 years in the defence and maritime sector, Wentao made the bold decision to reskill and pursue a role that would bring him closer to the community. Motivated by a desire to continue contributing meaningfully, he enrolled in the SkillsFuture Career Transition Programme (SCTP) at HMI Institute.

Through the programme, he completed the WSQ Higher Certificate in Healthcare (Therapy Support) and gained the skills needed to embark on a new path in healthcare. Today, Wentao serves as a Therapy Assistant at St. Andrew’s Community Hospital, supporting stroke and dementia patients in regaining their strength and mobility.

As a Continuing Education and Training Centre (CET) for the healthcare sector since 2009, HMI Institute remains committed to empowering mid-career individuals and in-service healthcare workers through industry-relevant training. To date, we have supported over 400,000 learners on their lifelong learning journey.

With enhanced support such as up to $3,000/month in SkillsFuture Mid-Career Training Allowance and a $4,000 SkillsFuture Credit (Mid-Career) top-up, individuals like Wentao continue to demonstrate what’s possible with the right support and training.
