Shin Min Daily News: 申请津贴报读课程海事业中年高管转行当医疗助理

Our alumnus, Mr Song Wentao, was featured in Shin Min Daily News (新明日报), where he shared his inspiring mid-career transition into healthcare.

After 30 years in the maritime industry, Wentao faced an unexpected career setback during the COVID-19 pandemic. With family responsibilities and uncertainty about starting over, he began to explore new career options that would allow him to continue contributing meaningfully to society.

His search led him to enrol in the SkillsFuture Career Transition Programme (SCTP) at HMI Institute, where he completed the WSQ Higher Certificate in Healthcare (Therapy Support). The course equipped him with practical skills and the confidence to embark on a new career path.

Today, Wentao works as a Therapy Assistant at St. Andrew’s Community Hospital, helping seniors regain their strength and mobility — and making a positive difference in their lives each day.

His journey is a powerful reminder that it’s never too late to pursue a second career, and that with the right support and mindset, meaningful change is possible at any stage of life.
