Overview
Emergencies can happen anytime, especially among older adults who may be more prone to falls, fainting, or breathing difficulties. This course equips participants with the knowledge and hands-on skills to recognise and respond effectively to such situations, perform age-appropriate life support, and provide timely assistance before professional help arrives.
Learning Objectives
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Recognise and respond effectively to common medical emergencies in older adults
- Perform basic life support interventions, including age-appropriate CPR and choking relief
- Stabilise the elderly person’s condition before professional medical help arrives
Course Outline
- Understanding the ageing body and recognising red flags that require urgent attention
- Identifying common medical emergencies such as falls, fainting, burns, cuts, nosebleeds, and breathing difficulties
- Performing initial assessment and ensuring scene safety
- Applying first aid responses for common emergencies, including bleeding control, immobilisation, burn care, and airway support
- Performing basic life support for older adults, including CPR, AED use, and choking management

- Home caregivers
- Volunteers interested in learning how to care for the elderly
Certification
Upon completion of the course, the participants will be awarded the Certificate of Completion by HMI Institute.
