Channel NewsAsia: Money Mind 2025

Our alumni, Mr Bony Sim, was given the opportunity to share his mid-career transition journey on Channel NewsAsia’s “Money Mind” programme.

After 23 years as an embalmer, Bony made a courageous mid-career switch into healthcare during the COVID-19 pandemic — motivated by a deep desire to contribute to society in a more meaningful way.

At 57 years old, he began exploring possible healthcare roles and researching the skills and qualifications required. This led him to enrol in the SkillsFuture Career Transition Programme (SCTP) at HMI Institute, where he completed the WSQ Higher Certificate in Healthcare (Nursing) with Perioperative Specialisation.

Through the course, Bony gained hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of the healthcare sector and the vital work healthcare professionals do every day. Today, he serves as a Healthcare Assistant, supporting patients on their journey to recovery.

His inspiring journey highlights the power of lifelong learning — and how determination and a willingness to embrace change can lead to fulfilling, impactful roles in entirely new industries.
