Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 5: Gan Siow Huang on support for mid-career workers

Starting next year, the SkillsFuture Mid-Career Training Allowance will be extended to workers enrolled in part-time training. They can apply for a fixed amount of S$300 a month to help cover learning expenses. Full-time training is covered from March 2025, with payouts of up to S$3,000. Individuals can get an allowance for a maximum of 24 months. Minister of State for Education Gan Siow Huang spoke on this in parliament on Thursday (Mar 6). She also outlined three priorities ahead for SkillsFuture – deepening the involvement of employers, especially SMEs, in skills development; empowering individuals to plan their careers and maximise their potential; and exploring new ways to support adult educators and professionalise the sector.

During her speech, Minister of State Gan Siow Huang highlighted our alumnus, Mr Song Wentao, and his career transition journey through HMI Institute. She shared how he leveraged SkillsFuture funding and training at HMI Institute to successfully navigate his career switch.
