Caregiver Training: Caring for the Elderly 1

Overview

This 1-day training program focuses on developing essential skills for caring for elderly individuals who require varying levels of assistance. The training covers eight key areas of elderly care, focusing on practical, hands-on learning.

Learning Objectives

  1. Assist elderly individuals in their Activities of Daily Living (ADL)
  2. Improve understanding of elderly care best practices
  3. Enhance skills in providing quality care for elderly individuals

Course Outline

The training involves face-to-face, hands-on learning with light physical activities. Participants will learn practical skills related to:

  1. Taking vital signs
  2. Assist the elderly in mobility
  3. Assist in transferring from bed to wheelchair and vice versa
  4. Assist the elderly in showering and grooming
  5. Assist the elderly in toileting
  6. Assist the elderly in oral feeding
  7. Positioning the elderly in bed
  8. Assist the elderly in exercises

Target Audience

  1. Foreign Domestic Workers (FDWs)
  2. Home caregivers
  3. Volunteers interested in learning how to care for the elderly

Certification

Upon completion of the course, the participants will be awarded the Certificate of Participation by HMI Institute.

Caregiver Training Grant Claimable
Eligible care recipients will receive a $200 annual subsidy (from April to March the following year) that can be used by their caregivers (family members or foreign domestic workers) to attend courses to better care for their loved ones.
