Overview

The Certificate in Community Care (Community Care Traineeship Programme - Nursing) is a comprehensive 3-month programme comprising an intensive 15-day fulltime training session. This is jointly designed and developed by the HMI Institute of Health Sciences and Agency for Integrated Care (AIC) for entry-level healthcare workers in the community/long-term care setting.

This course will enable new entrants to gain relevant basic skills and knowledge to play supportive roles in the administration of nursing care.

Career Prospects & Progression

As the population ages and with the shift of healthcare landscape to the community setting, community care healthcare support workers play an important role in maintaining the quality of care in the long-term care sector. Community care healthcare support workers can look forward to upgrading opportunities within the sector, such as the Enrolled Nurse or Registered Nurse.

Award of Certification

Certificate in Community Care (Community Care Traineeship Programme - Nursing)

Duration

3 months in total:

  1. 2 weeks (10 days) classroom training
  2. 1 week (5 days) clinical attachment
  3. 9 weeks of individual workplace coaching during On-Job-Training phase

Delivery Methods

The course comprises classroom training deploying various adult-learning methodologies such as roleplay, group work and sharing of experiences. Learners can also leverage on the Learning Management System (LMS) to access learning materials and contribute to online forums/discussions.

The course will be conducted in English.

  2. Adopt WSH practices and Perform First Aid
  3. Communicate effectively and develop cultural competence
  4. Develop self and personal resilience
  5. Lift and position patients
  6. Transfer patients and assist with ambulation
  7. Assist with exercise and activity
  8. Perform basic patient assessment
  9. Assist with elimination activity
  10. Assist with hygiene and grooming activity
  11. Assist with nutrition and fluids

Assessment Methods

Oral/written tests, assignments and practical performance

Graduation Criteria

Course completion requirements are met for the student who:

  1. Passed all assessments (Theory and Practical),
  2. Achieved at least 85% of the attendance for the classroom-training phase and
  3. Achieved at least 80% of the attendance for the clinical attachment phase.

In the event that the student fails to meet any one of the criteria, he/she will have to repeat the course in the next course run.

Minimum

  1. ILTC Employer sponsored In-Service Trainees (Singaporean & Singapore PR) eligible for AIC 90% course fee subsidy
  2. Satisfy academic entry requirement:
    -- Passed PSLE (or equivalent); OR
    -- Obtained Workplace Literacy & Numeracy (WPLN) Level-3 for Reading
  3. Employed (in-service) by Singapore ILTC employer
